10 ways to be motivated to craft

Have you been struggling with wanting to craft? Don’t worry, we’ve all been through those “artistic dry spells!” But if you are desperate to get some fresh motivation, here are 10 tricks I use.

1. I read an art book

Some of my favorites are: The Encyclopedia of Crafting by Martha Stewart, and Joyful Pages by Judith Cassel Mamet

So grab an artsy book (preferably one filled with how tos) and jot down any ideas for projects you get. Then go into your studio and try them out!

2. Go to an art blog

Sometimes I go to other art blogs to get inspiration for party ideas and crafts. Scroll through a few blogs, and write down your favorites (pls pick me! pls pick me!) and then visit those blogs whenever you want a few creative projects

3. Craft a mood board

I love doing this. Cut up bits of magazines depicting your favorite crafts and glue them up on a big piece of neon poster board.

4. Organize a designated crafting space

Thankfully, I’ve made lots of posts on that topic, so you should be set with ideas! It is always important to have a special craft space designated to helping you be the best artist you can be!

5. Take a break

Remember when I took my blog sabbatical? That really helped me and i got so many new ideas! Every once in a while, a break is exactly the right thing to motivate you even more.

6. Give yourself a deadline

While breaks do help, amping up the pressure works too. While crafting is definitely not pressure-y, if you feel like you need to craft more, assign a project to each day and give yourself a certain amount of time to complete it.

7. Craft for others

You might feel more motivated if you are crafting for others, instead of just yourself. Try making presents and poems, that kind of thing, for your loved ones.

8. Take a mind trip

Imagine you are in Paris, or some other special place. Google photos, take online museum tours, and more! Pretend like you are on vacation for real. That always inspires me.

9. Talk it out

Talk to a friend or family member about your artist block and see if they have any ideas. It always feels good to talk it out!

10. Get outside

Find leaves, petals, and any other inspiring materials, and think of a craft to make with nature!
