10 inventive craft materials made from stuff you already have! (Plus project ideas)
I love making my own materials and tools, and here’s how you can utilize your household objects into craft supplies! We’ll also share a bonus project that you can make with each of these things! So go ahead and read away!
1. Aluminum! This is a very bendy material that you can make sculptures out of. Look up a swan towel-folding tutorial on YouTube and then copy it, with aluminum!
2. Paper plate paint pallet! This is a simple hack for any painter on the go. Just squeeze out your colors onto a paper plate and go sit outside and paint the first flower you see!
3. Homemade eraser + pencil. Hot glue around an eraser on a classic American pencil, layering until it resembles ice cream. Form a peak on top by lifting your glue gun in the air. Then, while it’s still hot, add a dash of glitter. It works pretty well.
4. Homemade pencil. Unscrew the end of a pen and the innards will fall out. Get rid of the screw but keep the tube of ink and the point. Most pens will have the insides look like this. Trust me, I’ve dissected quite a few pens in my life. Then wrap it in origami paper, add some stickers, and you’re good to go!
5. One more homemade pen. Empty a container of nail polish and add stickers on the exterior. Fill a quarter of the container with glitter and sequins. Then, get rid of the lid and brush. Dissect another pen (view above) and this time cut the ink tube in half. Cut a strip about two inches wide out of some origami paper, and roll it into a cylinder. Hot glue it in place. Glue the pen to the cylinder, and screw it in to the nail polish. Now you have a nail polish container pen. So cute, right?
6. Craft Storage idea 1. Hot glue toilet paper rolls on a piece of cardboard and spray paint.
7. Craft Storage idea 2. Bend straws into shapes and hot glue on top of each other. Add a piece of cardboard on the base.
8. Craft Storage idea 3. Use old magazine holders and hot glue them together.
9. Sew your own pillows for your craft chair! For instructions, go to Sewing Machine Basics on my blog.
10. Collect inspirational bits and bobs from around your house and tape them on a square piece of poster board and add any clippings and fabric scraps you wish!
Enjoy your new craft ideas! Love u guys!
