How to craft the perfect photo album
Photo albums help document a trip, and they let you revisit your favorite memories with just a few page turns.
Here’s the ten steps towards crafting the perfect photo album.
1. Starter page
I like to start with a photo of the place all these memories happened, to ground the following pictures and make everything seem in place, so they make sense.
2. Organization
Next you need to decide if you’d like to organize your photos chronologically or in a separate way. Usually I group my photo albums into categories. Art, people, activities, etc.
3. Group
Then I group the photos into piles, making it easier to arrange.
4. Start
Start putting your pages in!
5. Glitter page
Here’s a fun page idea.
Add a photo of a party, or special event, in your album. Then, sprinkle a little glitter in the pocket of the photo page. Glue the top shut. Now, when you flip your page upside down, you have a snow globe effect.
6. Scrapbook page
Add some other materials you found during the times these photos were taken. Like napkins, confetti, cards, etc. Cut out a square of special paper that fits inside the photo album. Glue your found materials onto the square and place it in your photo album.
7. Shibori page
Take a piece of white felt and bunch it up with some rubber bands. Dunk it in your blue shibori ink and let dry. Take off the rubber bands and open your felt. Glue a picture in the center of your felt, and pop in your photo album.
8. Final photo
End with a picture of your family, to perfectly conclude your photo album.
9. Cover
Try making a cover for your photo album out of fake flowers and sequins.
10. The spine
I like to add a bit of ephemera on the spine. Sometimes I punch a hole with a needle in a cork that was from a bottle of wine at the event. Then I pull some thread through the hole and attach it to the spine. Sometimes I add feathers and beads for a whimsical, boho chic touch!
This is fantastic!
