Homemade night sky jar

I love looking up at the night sky. While the vastness of space usually makes one feel small and insignificant, I feel loved and noticed - purposeful. God put all of those little stars in the sky; He thoughtfully crafted each one. Looking up at all of His marvelous handiwork helps remind me that God cares for me too.

But sometimes the sky is cloudy at night, and I miss that little reminder. So I thought, why not bring the night sky indoors? This jar sits proudly on my bedside table, a constant reminder.

Materials:

Tea light

Mason jar

Black paint

Paintbrush

Waste paper

Silver, gold, or light blue gel pen

Set your painting supplies and the jar on the waste paper to prevent spillage.

Watch the tutorial to see the jar being painted.

Then, once the base coat was dry, I flipped the jar upside down. Using a paintbrush I dolloped some extra gesso on the bottom and watched as it dripped down the sides.

I love the way gesso drips.
When the drips dried I flipped the jar right-side up and saw that the drips had formed trees and mountains!
Then I took a light blue gel pen and drew all sorts of stars and designs on my gesso jar. Finally I popped a candle in it and, when placed in the dark, my night sky jar illuminates all of the sparkly stars!

I hope this activity will serve as a constant reminder that you are loved by the ultimate crafter, God.
