Best Books for Animal Lovers

 I just posted about my favorite books - how they have shaped me and my writing. I also recommended a few. But what if you’re an animal fan, like me? Here are my favorite animal books and why I love them.

Born Free: Sad but heartwarming, you will feel like you know Elsa the lioness, and if you like the book, there is also a great movie. 

The Green Ember Series: I love these books; they have everything! Humor, action, tragedy, and a touch of romance. I want to thank my friend for introducing me to these charming rabbits. 

The One and Only Ivan: A beautiful tome full of animal-y goodness, you’ll love all the complex and remarkably different characters. There is also a sequel about the lovable rascal dog, Bob. 

The War that Saved My Life: If you like horses, this book is a must read. Set in the harsh climate of World War Two, this book is gripping, complex, and will charm many readers.

Molly’s Story: Truth be told, I love all of W. Bruce Cameron’s work, and his book Molly is the embodiment of heartwarming. Plus, it has a cute dog on the cover.

Oliver: The journey of a man to find his lost Shih-Tzu Yorkie mix after he was stolen is complete with cute pictures in the back. A true story that feels unbelievable. 

Check out Sharon Creech’s books Love that Dog, Hate that Cat, and Moo. The first two are uniquely done stories intertwined with art work and poems. The latter is a happy tail of a cow. (Yes, I spelled it tail. It is an animal post after all!)

Life of Pi: Terrifyingly beautiful. I love Yann Martel’s work. Though if you are particularly fond of hyenas, zebras, and orangutans, I might skip this book. 

The Redwall series: if you like mice that go on adventures, look no further than this charming series. 

FYI, Of Mice and Men does not really contain mice that go on adventures and To Kill a Mockingbird does not have a mockingbird. Just thought you should know.
